Diaper Valet Mother's Day Giveaway

We're excited to announce that we've partnered with MoMamas, makers of the Diaper Valet compact diaper bag, to bring parents a special giveaway this Mother's Day. MoMamas' Adrienne Jones has offered to give away ten Diaper Valets, five apiece to two charitable organizations that serve mothers in need, for them to pass on to struggling moms.

All we need now are the names of organizations to consider giving these to - and that's where you come in. We welcome you to comment on this post, offering the name, contact information, and a bit of information about a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization in your area that you'd like to see receive five Diaper Valet handmade diaper bags for mothers in their programs.

Women's shelters, pregnancy centers, and support organizations are all eligible, and we hesitate even to mention those because we are confident our readers are aware of even more types of organizations that could get these handmade diaper bags into the hands of deserving moms. All we ask is that the organization be a registered charity and that it serve mothers in need. If you have had some personal contact with the organization, we welcome you to share your story.

Next Thursday at noon, MoMamas and Z Recommends will begin sorting through the suggested organizations and select two for the giveaway, notifying each organization on Friday, May 11, that the $150 in Diaper Valets are on their way. If helping out a local organization this Mother's Day isn't enough incentive already, MoMamas has also agreed to give away two Diaper Valets including wipes cases, changing pads, and straps to two individuals who submit eligible organizations for consideration. All contributors who include some form of contact information (an email address or a public Blogger profile which links to one) will be entered into this random drawing. (If you don't mind not having a chance to win a Diaper Valet yourself, you are welcome to suggest an organization anonymously if you prefer.)

In the end, MoMamas will give away twelve Diaper Valets to mothers and the readers who support them, for a total of roughly $400 in merchandise.

Read (and watch!) our review of the Diaper Valet, and check out their great designs and features on the Diaper Valet website.

My vote is for a nonprofit in my town called Humboldt Domestic Violence Services. It provides shelter for families (meaning: moms with their kids fleeing horrible home situations), a crisis line, and a range of other services for women in nightmarish living situations. The shocking thing is that physical abuse often begins during pregnancy.

Judging by what I've seen of their operation after helping with a benefit event this week, every last ounce of equity goes to the services they provide.

Given the donated clothing they are accustomed to accepting, new swanky Diaper Valets would knock their collective socks off.

Unfortunately, their web site (hdvs.org) is ancient and the prominently listed phone number is for their crisis line.

If you pick HDVS, I can get you their full contact info. Give 'em my Diaper Valet. If I have another baby, I'll buy one.

I would like to nominate The Shelter in Columbia, Missouri, which provides shelter and outreach services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. I volunteered with their children's program and hotline for about a year and a half until I had my baby last August. I still try to support them when I can and I know the moms at The Shelter would really appreciate the diaper valets. We often had moms with young babies living at The Shelter during the time I volunteered there. It's a great program that provides essential services to mothers and children in Boone county. Their phone number is: 573-875-1369. Their address is not published because the location is kept confidential, so if they are chosen, you can call and get their address. My e-mail address is leonk@missouri.edu.

Please consider Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, CA. I've volunteered with and donated to them for more years than I can count. They are a wonderful organization that has helped so many (including moms!) in the southern Bay Area. Their website is www.shcstheheart.org.

I just remembered that The Shelter in Columbia is not always accepting donations, so if you are considering them you may want to call first to find out if they are accepting donations at this time.

I would like to nominate the New Horizon Maternity Home. Memebers of my church have been involved in numerous fund raisers benefitting this great facility. Alexandria is a small town, so it is a blessing to have this service available to mothers in need. They could greatly benefit from any donations.

New Horizon Maternity Home
216 W Washington St
Alexandria, Indiana 46001

Thanks for considering them (segate75@yahoo .com)

Re-vision house urban farm is a shelter for young homeless women and their kids in dorchester, MA. Women living there learn to run the farm, gardens, and aquaculture operation. See See their site here. they have a produce CSA in summer and a seedling co-op with regular and heirloom varieties. I've participated in both and the produce is amazing.

I'd like to recommend Pregnancy Resource Services in Kitsap County, WA.
http://www.pregnancy-resources.org/
Helen Johnson 360-479-0243 prs.bremerton@telebyte.com

They support and encourage women who didn't plan for pregnancy, helping them learn their options for how to proceed. They also assist soon to be and new parents in need with the necessities for a new baby, as well as helping to teach care of a newborn.

My vote is for the Plainfield Area YMCA in Plainfield NJ. The Plainfield Area YMCA has a shelter for mothers and their children. The Plainfield Area YMCA is also the only YMCA in NJ with a foster care program. Raising Amazing People (RAP) Foster Care Program recruits, trains, and supports its own foster homes. The donations would benefit both the new moms in the shelter and the foster mothers taking in an infant foster child for the first time.

I'd like to nominate Women of Nations, a battered women's shelter in St. Paul, MN. http://women-of-nations.org/
They help Native American and other abused women in the Twin Cities. These are women who don't have much, maybe just the clothes on their backs.

If you choose Women of Nations, please give them my Diaper Valet too!

It looks like I may be too late, but I'd like to put a shout out to Family Health Project in New York City. It's an organization that recognizes the impact of HIV/AIDS particularly on women of color. E-mail: sukifhp@crenyc.org. Suki Terada Ports, Executive Director, 42 Broadway, 20th Floor, New York, NY 10006.
