BPA Wallet Card

We've created a BPA Wallet Card to help consumers easily identify BPA-free feeding items and pacifiers covered in the Z Report on BPA. One side offers basic info on companies with BPA-free product lines in the categories of bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, and tableware, and the other provides the short code and basic texting instructions for querying our BPA Mobile Project to get detailed product information via text message.

Just download our free PDF file from Google Base, print it out, cut out the double-sided card, fold it down the middle, and voila! Now it's easier than ever to identify BPA-free products for your children.

We won't have a review post today - traveling to Houston for Jenni to jump into Fotofest, a biennial photo exhibition and meeting place for gallery owners, art dealers, and curators from around the world.

I swear, you have done SO much work on this! Thank you. We need some new sippys and with so many options out there, this will be a helpful cheat sheet.

You guys ROCK. What a great idea. I heart the research you have *already* done and now this. Seriously, this is a public service.

This is awesome! I keep meaning to do this for "the dirty dozen" of fruits and veggies, but never got around to it. Now at least I'll have one for plastic.

What do you guys do for leftovers and lunches? What the heck did people do before tupperware??

Jeremiah McNichols said...

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

@Dinahk: For leftovers, a lot of less-expensive food storage items are made of polypropylene - we use Gladware sometimes. We also have a set of small Corning glass dishes with lids that we like to use.

For lunches, we use the Laptop Lunch System, which we reviewed here - bento-style boxes that have a lot of great features. Those are also PP and we will be adding them to the directory soon.

Other than that, we wrap sandwich-type items in wax paper, and otherwise use polyethylene bags as needed. But we rarely need them when we use the Laptop Lunch boxes. We have one for Jenni, one for me, and one for Z, and also have a few extra sets of the inner containers so we can, ahem, get a day or so behind on dishes.

Im wondering about the safety of Zak! design products. We have several dishes and cups by this company and cannot find any info about them...

I've been wondering, how lead-free are most toddler cutlery sets? Some are made in China, and the non-identified metal parts look suspiciously (to me) like the many examples of childrens' jewelry that have been found by the CPSC to contain lead.

Thank you! Wonderful plastics/ BPA info here, but lead has been worrying me recently too.

I second the worries about Zak, although Amazon has listed that the Zak Cars straw cup is "Polypropylene & Polyvinyl", if that helps...

Also - where does melamine fit in to all this??

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL INFORMATION ON PBA FREE PRODUCTS.
DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON "ZAK DESIGNS" PRODUCTS? THEY MAKE SIPPY CUPS, TABLEWARE, PLATES AND MORE WITH CHILDREN CHARACTERS LIKE TINKERBELL OR SPIDERMAN.

Don't forget about old fashioned glass baby bottles for your babies too. I just had a baby 10 months ago and he has never drank out of plastic, only glass. It was good enough for my mother and grandmother!!

I contacted Zak Designs which said:

Our plates and bowls are made from melamine and our drinkware is made from polypropylene. Neither of these contains BPA and are tested 100% food contact safe for human use.

I hope this is of help to you and we certainly appreciate your interest in Zak Design products!

What an awesome idea! Thanks for keeping parents up to date. I hope we will see a day when all products are BPA free and we dont have to worry about a list, but until then thanks for all your research!

Are you sure the sippy tops on the Klean Kanteen are BPA Free? (Avent product SCF147)
Thanks

Jeremiah McNichols said...

@Chris,

Yes, we are - at least to the extent that we can be sure of anything. Both Avent and Klean Kanteen reported to us that they were BPA-free.
