Kiss A Ninja

Pucca is the daughter of a Chinese noodle house owner and is in love with the ninja, Garu. Garu has taken a vow of silence but makes it abundantly clear he has no interest in Pucca, and the two engage in mortal combat on a regular basis, with Pucca usually ending up stealing a kiss from Garu.

We really can't show Z this South Korean-made, anime-meets-Flash confection that blends the plotlines of Pepe Le Pew and the structure of Ms. Pac-Man interstitials, mostly because we're pretty careful about avoiding violence in her media, however cartoonish. In a few years, she may be ready for it. I hope so, anyway, because it's really fun stuff.

Shout! Factory, to whom we owe an infinite debt of gratitude for their recent re-release of The Electric Company, has released two DVDs of this great series, Ninjas Love Noodles and Kung Fu Kisses, and we're giving away a copy of Kung Fu Kisses to one ZRecs reader. For a chance to win, comment on this post with the answer to this question:

What's your favorite tactic for stealing a kiss from someone you love?

Enter by 5 p.m. CST on Friday, May 2. No purchase is necessary, and you can only enter once.

We'll select a winner at random from eligible entries on May 3 and post the winner's name, as well as three alternates, to PRIZEY (prize announcements are listed in the righthand sidebar). If the winner doesn't claim the prize by Tuesday, May 7, the first alternate to have sent in their mailing address to zrecommends (at) gmail (dot) com will get the prize.

I love Pucca!

Thankfully, my kids are both still very open to kisses. All I have to do is pucker up and they come running. Or lurching, in Jasper's case...

Use Jedi mind tricks. It's all in the eyes.

My almost-3-year-old is in an anti-kiss phase so I steal them by making them fun: butterfly kisses, Eskimo kisses, upside down kisses...

I wake my boys up every morning by getting in bed and snuggling. It is the only time that I can get them to stop long enough to talk to me.

To my 2yo: I gonna eat your nose, I'm gonna eat your ear, I'm gonna eat your cheek, I'm gonna eat your chin, I'm gonna eat your eyes, then I sneak in with a kiss and she just giggles and giggles!

Sorry to darken the subject, but I've always tried not to play those games with the kids. Its loving, no doubt, but we try to let them have give permission first. I think its important that they know they can say no if they want to and expect an adult (or anyone else) to respect that.

Welp, I tell my kiddies I have to tell you something and when they lean in, I plant one. But at their age, it's still pretty easy to get one. :)

I sneak up from behind and kiss them on the top of the head. Puuca is my favorite!

littlelatina said...

I strike from above. I look into my son's eyes upside down and kiss him smack on the nose. He never knows I'm coming and always laughs which is the best sound to hear for the day.

mogrill said...

Ive always done this to my daughter...I will tell her "hey something is on your nose..let me get a close look" than I get really close and KISS her!

mannequin said...

i bribe, threaten and blackmail.
in addition, every night before my eldest went to bed, he was required to say "I am having a wonderful childhood". This worked great if he was upset, it brought giggles. If he was happy, it was planted in his memory.

I've seen Pucca steal kisses from Garu in every sneaky way imaginable.
But for me the simplest way is just to pretend I have something super secret to tell my husband.
When he leans in to hear the dirt, I go in for the kiss.
At least that's how I'll do it until my ninja training is complete.

When my daughter went through a stage, at 4, where she was through with kissing me, I taught her about "Princess Kisses" where mommy pretends to be the prince and she's the princess and we kiss. It totally worked.
