Unlike most yoga mats, which get sticky, smell like plastic, are dust magnets, and are made of phthalate-containing PVC, Lotuspad yoga mats are made of phthalate-free TPE. They come in kid and adult sizes, are biodegradable and recyclable, and after the company sent us one to review last year, we named it one of our 2007 Top Picks and bought two more. (You can read our review here.)
Lotuspad is a small company, and small companies buy their products in big batches just a few times a year. Companies that master this challenging boom-and-bust rhythm without going broke plan design improvements very carefully, and Lotuspad has made a couple of very smart adjustments that have made an already great product even better. The company has shifted production from mainland China to Taiwan, gone with an even plushier-feeling TPE (we thought they were pretty soft already), and shifted to the brighter, bolder colors (pinks and blues for both adults and kids, and a bunch of others for adults), in addition to the more subtle tones of their earlier mats. They still offer carry straps, and now sell a "yoga mat wash" to keep your mat spic and span. They also decreased their packaging footprint and use labels made out of - wait for it - elephant poop.
Honestly, the most amazing thing to us is that Lotuspads haven't gone up in price. When we first reviewed the Lotuspad kids' yoga mat, we recommended it with a warning that their prices were probably introductory ones, but the mom entrepreneur behind Lotuspad is still selling kids' mats for $28, which is an unheard-of deal for a non-PVC mat at a kid-friendly size.
We have two treats for ZRecs readers.
First, a giveaway: One Lotuspad in the size and color of your choice, with a strap. To enter to win (U.S. residents 18 and up, please) comment on this post with a favorite yoga pose. We'll accept entries through 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 18, pick a winner shortly thereafter, and announce it on PRIZEYWinners as well as emailing the winner and two alternates if they provide an email address in their comment.
Second, a coupon code: Lotuspad is offering ZRecs readers $5 off any mat, with no limit to the number of mats it's applied to, through next Wednesday (July 23). That means you can get kids' mats for $23 and adult mats for $35. The code is ZRECS, and you can use it in the Lotuspad shop.
If you want to take advantage of that coupon code, you can buy mats now without cursing your good luck later - if you win the giveaway, Lotuspad will refund your money for your highest-price mat and strap.

Downward facing dog. No really good reason except I've seen my dog do all of the dog poses one way or another and it makes me giggle.
I've always found the child's pose to be the most relaxing. It is peaceful and it stretches out my lower back beautifully!
Love Downward facing dog. The stretch feels so good. It is also a favorite of mine because both my boys (4 & 2) have done it with me since they were tiny and just laid under me.
Child's pose, for sure! Though I find standing splits very challenging, so I think it's good for me.
I like the sun salutation (okay, I know it's more than one pose).
tayjohns@gmail.com
Without a doubt, the child's pose too! Although all of the yoga poses on the Wii fit I find impossible to manage while maintaining my "center of balance". My husband does get a kick out of watching me sway from side to side.
amakowski29@sbcglobal.net
Thanks!
Gosh, I'm not original. But my fave is Child's Pose. It helped me soooo much in the last week of pregnancy!
ermsmails [at] yahoo [dot]] com
For me, it's bound angle pose (Baddha Konasana). I love the stretch, and for some reason I find this pose easy, although I'm not usually a flexible person.
Warrior - it makes me feel strong even when I'm an exhausted mama :)
I'm not sure what the "official" name for the pose is. My teacher calls it Pigeon and it is an amazing hip stretch. I love it!
Prayer Squat - it was so helpful for me when I was pregnant.

child's pose. my 2.5 yo loves it too. i caught her doing it the other day (and saying "child's pose" at the same time - so cute!) when she thought i was in the other room.
ok, i've been wanting one (or two) of these since you wrote that other post on them. this time, i'm getting them whether i win or not. how can you go wrong with elephant poop labels?
Like everyone else I like Downward facing dog, but also tree pose.
For me, it's a tie between Warrior pose and Child's pose. Child's pose is so relaxing, but warrior makes me feel strong and empowered. Email: jennae@greenyourdecor.com
For me, I like the Balasana (child's pose). It is so relaxing and good for my back!

I like Downward facing dog. It's a good stretch--and my 2-year-old son looks really cute doing it with me!
The warrior pose. Makes me feel strong and stretched out.
Downward facing dog: it's the pose our son strikes when he's about to throw a tantrum. It's a laughable early warning system.
I love the Warrior pose !
When I am good and stretched I like Cobra pose. Child pose is fantastic after a good cobra pose.
Tree pose has always been my favorite - thanks!
Downward Facing Dog is a good stretch
Warrior 3 is relaxing
I love the childs pose. I always almost fall asleep when I do it. It is great. I always feel great afterwards.

It kills me to do it sometimes, but my favorite is Downward Dog. It really makes me feel strong!
Hard to pick just one! I love cobbler's pose and tree pose right now--will probably have a different favorite tomorrow.
Child's Pose for me. It's a nice calming stretch.
I'd have to say the "Corpse Pose" (restorative) because a lot of the poses are hard for me and that is the easiest by far!

okay first off I have to say YIIPPPIE! [I want to win!] I really would love to have a yoga mat for my son. Doing yoga with me in the morning not only calms him but he can have one on one mommy time before "the beast" wakes up. aka his lit'l sister.

Warrior's Pose. It makes me feel confident.
When I'm yoga-ing on all cylinders, I like tree pose because it makes me feel so zen. But it's a hard one for my right hip, so I really have to work at it.
Standing bow and floor bow both make me feel super-strong and empowered.

I like the hissing cat.
I like the Warrior pose. I just thot the first time I went there via a video "Come on, World, take me on!"
I am more of a high-energy exerciser, but my daughter just discovered yoga. We did some videos together on our vacation this summer. I was bored; she fell in love with it. (Isn't life just like that?)
She goes off to college this fall and I would love to win this mat to send with her. She has been so worried about piling on the "freshman fifteen", then discovered she loves Yoga, so she has been working her way thru yoga on the net and videos to find a routine she can establish before she gets to the hectic college schedule. This mat would be like "Oh, wow, confirmation that this is it!"
I am going to miss her, but I am so excited that she is starting her own young adult life. I remember that time in my life. Excitedly scared to death! ha
Thanks for having the giveaway.

My boys (4 and 6) are learning yoga at school, so I asked them for their favorites! They like both the rock pose and the triangle pose. Now, I'm not sure if these are 'real' poses or not, but they are so cute when they demonstrate them for me! Younger DS made up a 'moose' pose the other day.

Alligator (or is it crocodile). It's difficult but my daughter can do this.
I love Crane pose, even though it's really hard and I sometimes have trouble lifting my toes off the ground to do it. But when I can manage to get the balance, I am so proud of myself!
cecilytechuan (at) gmail (dot) com

my favorite: pidgeon pose. It's the pose where I learned that, though years of ballet have kept me very flexy in some ways, there are other ways in which I am not.
My 2 year old's favorite: upward-facing dog. She does it so well because she learned it from watching her dad do it over and over and over.

There is nothing more relaxing during yoga than downward-facing dog.
I like the tree pose because the leg that is standing is like roots and I feel connected to the ground.
doot65[at]comcast[dot]net
Thanks for the contest. Count me in!
I watch a friend's 7-year-old daughter twice a week and she has begun teaching me the yoga her mom is teaching her. I can't remember the names of the poses (my full attention was focused on trying to get my significantly older body to do what hers does effortlessly), but I would love to start doing yoga at home. If I win this mat I will buy an instructional DVD and hopefully I can get in better shape during my daughter's naps. Thanks for the opportunity!
gpwp8191@gmail.com
Cobra. really loosens my back up!
downward facing dog for me
I like the tree pose. I feel good when I do it. that is all I know for a reason LOL
I love the Downward facing dog for my sciatica
I'd like to sound cool and super athletic and say something like the Revolved Half Moon Pose...but I'm although I did pregnancy yoga I'm only just getting back, and I'm telling you, the nicest poses after a day chasing after a toddler would have to be the relaxing child pose, or the Corpse pose - Savasana - letting everything go.
Its lieing down on your back with your feet together, hands are at your side. Seek the center line of your body, from head to heels and center self on that axis and close your eyes while turning attention inward towards your heart. Next, follow your breathing - your breath - inside into your heart. Keep focus inwards let go of physical.
Be nothing, be nobody - not mom, wife, household manager....no one...
The Warrior!
